On Sunday 4th June the flowers at the sanctuary steps [above] were dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attacks in Manchester [22nd May] and London [3rd June]
Many thanks to the flower arranging team for making the church look so beautiful for this special day. Pentecost [ or Whitsunday ] this year was celebrated on the 4th June. Pentecost means fifty days. Ascension is forty days after Easter and ten days later it is Pentecost. It is when the eleven remaining disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Traditionally the colour of the flowers in church for this day represent the symbols of the Holy Spirit, they are white [ the dove] and flame colours [tongues of fire]
The font flowers for the 11th June were for Ken & Hong Yoke Hepburn in celebration their 23rd wedding anniversary. On the same day the flowers in the Lady Chapel were given by our Bellringers to remember Sue Ashdown on her birthday.
The flowers on the High Altar for Sunday 18th June were in memory of Alasdair’s Dad, Ronald Davidson Preston, on his birthday.
The flowers in the porch were a tribute to all fathers and father figures on Fathers Day.
The Nativity of Saint John The Baptist is the 24th June. He is one of only two Saints [the other being the Virgin Mary] that are celebrated on their birthdays rather than their death. This year the Patronal Festival is on Sunday 25th June. The church will be decorated with lots of flowers for our special day. You will have to wait until the September magazine for that report as the deadline for this magazine is the 18th of June.
Leytonstone Festival July 1st to 16th, Car Free Day September 3rd . The flower team will endeavour to arrange fresh flowers for these occasions as well as every Sunday.
