The Alpha course was created by Revd. Charles Marnham in 1977, whilst he was a curate at Holy Trinity, Brompton. However, it was Revd. Nicky Gumbel, also a curate at Holy trinity, who in 1990 developed it into the format we know today and Nicky Gumbel is still involved with Alpha.

Exodus and Ancient History

I have enjoyed history since I was a child, particularly ancient history. I am not an historian or a history buff, but I do like it and when something interests me I am likely to look deeper into the subject.

Do Not Fear...

The recent terror attacks in Manchester and London and terrible fire in Grenfell tower have visibly shaken us as a country and they have highlighted what a broken and painful world we live in.

Circle the City

On Sun 21st May I joined about 500 people of all ages and abilities to take part in Christian Aid’s 20th sponsored walk ‘Circle the City’. This annual event marks the end of Christian Aid Week, which this 60th Anniversary year focused on refugees.

So what do you do to become a bellringer – you are asking yourself – well perhaps not as we have very few members of St. John’s who are ringers. We don’t really understand why, perhaps you think it is all done by machine or something digital in today’s world. No! it’s done by people that we call ‘ringers’.
